When are Eid and Diwali together?

Diwali is set by the Hindu lunisolar calendar and falls on Kartik Amavasya (the new-moon day).

Eid al-Fitr is fixed to 1 Shawwal in the Islamic (Hijri) lunar calendar and depends on the crescent moon sighting.

These calendars don’t align—Hindu lunisolar vs a purely lunar Hijri—so exact same-day overlaps are very rare.

Some forecasts and posts point to late Oct 2038 as a close match (Diwali ~Oct 28, Eid around Oct 29–30), but sightings vary.

Because local moon-sighting rules differ, Eid can fall on different Gregorian dates in different countries.

Historically, exact Diwali+Eid same-day celebrations are extremely uncommon and often spark viral “double festival” talk.

To know for sure each year, check a trusted panchang or your local moon-sighting/Islamic authority a day or two before the festival.

If they do coincide, it’s a rare and joyful “double festival” moment celebrated widely across communities.
